born on January. 19 1946, in Locust Ridge Tenn into a poverty-stricken family which would later consist of 12 children Dolly Parton learned early to get away from the struggles of life by using her vivid and broad imagination. Before she could write and read, she had already composed the songs she wrote herself. She got her first guitar when she was just 8 years old and started singing at an Knoxville Tenn radio station at the age of 11. The following year, she made her first album with Gold Band Records an independent small-scale label. In high school She made her mark local, but longed for an even bigger stage. After graduating high school in 1964 she immediately moved to Nashville. Dumb Blonde (both 1967) as well as Something Fishy were among her first Monument Records chart-topping records. Porter Wagoner began looking for new female vocalists for his TV show syndicated by a network at approximately the same at the same time. Parton became a member of Grand Ole Opry 1969 after signing to RCA Records.
